Agriculture is not just a profession but an vocation that ensures the safety and quality of our daily food. As part of the CAPambition project, co-financed by the European Union, the thematic seminar provided students specializing in animal health at the Batthyány Ignác Technical College in Gheorgheni with the opportunity to discover how they can become future experts in agriculture and food safety.

The seminar placed special emphasis on the importance of food safety and quality assurance in the short food supply chain. The official veterinarian from the Harghita County Directorate for Veterinary Health and Food Safety shared insights into the challenges and opportunities of the profession, offering students a detailed presentation of the daily activities of an official veterinarian.

The generational shift is becoming an increasingly pressing issue in the agri-food sector, making it essential to engage and involve young people in this process. Local production is not only growing in importance but also offers young people a stable and predictable career opportunity. In this context, the initiative called Harghita is Waiting for You was presented by representatives of the Development Agency and the local youth council, providing students with insight into local opportunities.

We hope that through this seminar, young people have gained a better understanding of the role of food safety and quality assurance in local food supply chains and have obtained a deeper insight into the challenges and opportunities of the local agricultural sector.
